Those of you who are familiar with my gallery know that I love obscure heroes. And if you look elsewhere in my gallery, you'll notice these guys have already popped up a few times. In the 1960s, the Batman tv series was all the rage, and Harvey Comics -- better known for publishing the likes of Caspar the Friendly Ghost, Wendy the Good Little Witch, and Richie Rich, decided to jump on the superhero bandwagon and debut their own line of superhero titles. None lasted more than three issues. Now, that may not have been a very long time, but its long enough to justify a visit from the Juggernaut -- and here he is!
For some reason, I kinda like these characters. Not because of what they were -- most were hastily construed and poorly thought out in the rush to get them to market -- but for what they could be. I still think some of these characters -- guided by the right talent -- could be interesting. The Gladiator, Spyman, Jack Frost, Jigsaw, Magicmaster Pirana and the buzzing Bee-Man are seen here as they prepare to do battle with a none-too-impressed Juggernaut. And in part 2 of this commission, you'll see what happens when the battle goes all out. Oh, its ON, baby!
The art here is my first commission by the amazing Steve Carr. I learned about Steve after seeing his artwork in the gallery of my friend and comic art commission grandmaster Michael Rankins. Now that you're back, let's get back to Steve Carr. After seeing his art in Michael's gallery, I'd forgotten about him until I picked up an old issue of MS. MYSTIC a few months ago that he'd drawn. It reminded me I wanted to have him do something for me.
I contacted Steve through his CAF gallery -- yep, he's got one RIGHT HERE -- and one thing led to another, and BOOM!! -- here's the finished piece by Steve. Great prices, turnaround in UNDER A WEEK, and I just love that cool Mike Mignola vibe his art has. How much do I love it? Let's just say he'll be doing some more for me in the very near future.
