DescriptionThe Sentinels #32 (Oct 1964)The Guild Nefarious The Sentinels encounter a group of evil-doers from a parallel Reverse-Earth who seem strangely familiar (to the readers). ~~~ In 1964 the JLA encountered evil versions of themselves from a Earth-Three - Crime Syndicate of America . Five years later, Marvel's Avengers also encountered villainous versions of the JLA - Counter-Earth's Squadron Sinister. You can see where this is going ... The Sentinels needed to encounter some baddies like that. From, let's say, Reverse-Earth, populated by evil versions of superheroes and good versions of supervillains. So, there's good versions of Luthor and Dr. Octopus (no doubt in bright, primary colors), evil versions of Superman and Captain America, etc. (in stunning purple, green, and orange). Since DC is so frequently represented, I thought Marvel needed some face-time, too. So, here's the villain and the hero parallel. From left to right: Darkthorn - Batman. Dark vigilante. Let's see -- the parallel would be a master thief who sets traps? Hey - thorns are like a trap if you get stuck in them - I'm a genius. Sekhmet - Thor. God(ess) of War. She is a god of chaos, war, and destruction. Plus, the head of a lioness!! Egyptian gods are made for comic books, why don't we see more of them? She could also be a Nelvana parallel. Definitely needed the lioness head and Egyptian iconography, but Silver-Age simple costume. (Afterwards, I realized if they're from a Reverse-Earth, she should have been an evil version of a "good" god, but what can you do?) Helios - Superman. Alien powerhouse, but more like a Nazi Ubermensch (stupid Nazis). But not Silver-Age Superman powered, more like the 1938 Superman leaping over buildings, etc. Behemoth - Hulk. Pseudo-mindless behemoth (hence the name). Raw power with no conscience. Also, dark purple probably. Blackweb - Spider-Man. Only, he's kind of crazy. Like, creepy crazy. The Fraims turn in another stellar piece, I especially like the Helios design, waaay better than mine. Also, you don't really see enough villains with beards. (C) Roy Johnson 2013 Social/Sharing |

I really want to read these in an hardcover format. I cannot give higher praise than that.
