This is the other page I bought from the recent A Contract with God gallery sale. Eisner tends to be known for his formalism and classic approach to narrative but there's some subtlety in this splash page as well. Both Hersh and the baby are living out of a wooden box and they're both intentionally shown with their heads cast up to the sky - towards "God". Hersh's lips seem to be closed but if we take the infant girl as a mirror of his state of mind, he's actually "crying" helplessly like a babe.
