DescriptionI was instantly hooked on the character of Vindicator (Guardian) from Alpha Flight! So much so that right when this issue came out, I created my shameless rip-off character called "Avatar"! On Avatar's first (and only) cover, I even swiped panels 4 & 5 from this page for my montage cover. So, this has always been the X-Men page for me!8/24/18 update: I finally found the Vindicator rip-off character I “created” shortly after X-Men #120 came out. In 1979 I was around 12 and freehanded the whole “Avatar” cover, with the afore mentioned liberal swiping of panels 4 & 5. Now, it’s not clear to me HOW the X-Men were going to guest-star in the fledgling Murray Comics Group, but this was well before I knew or cared about things like licensing or being sued! :) Art from 1979 - 11x17. I have a soft spot for Alpha Flight as well. So cool you were able to track down this sentimental page. Congrats!

I must first apologize for a most truant post commenting on this page, Joe. This page passed through many owner's hands prior to landing into your collection and had some baggage. I am glad to see that it has stayed here for the last six years in your mighty Byrne collection. I must second add a query to your X-Men 112 comment starting all this Byrne collecting for you. Do my eyes deceive me that I do not see a 112 cover or interior page in your gallery and wonder when you might change this? Happy hunting!

The ultimate compliment is to copy or swipe an artist you admire. Avatar, indeed....I did similar and havea full colour comic I did of Judge Dredd and sci fi stuff. The innocence of youth before you know about copyright.

Not much to say about a JB X-Men page that hasn't already been said, so let's talk about your awesome cover, done at the tender age of 12. I love it. It reminds me of Richard Comely's early Captain Canuck covers: Murray Comics Group - Comely Comics! Nuff Said!!
