DescriptionBatman/Spectre: Brave and the Bold # 116 pg. 9 from the story "Grasp of the Killer Cult" Jim Aparo pen and ink 1974, spectacular dialogue and Batman in five out of six panels, but it's The profile of Jim (Spectre) in the top right panel that catches the attention and burns to the memory... At least it did so to a kid many years ago, and Yes, I can confirm that it still does.Social/Sharing |

Wow, this is right about the time I start buying comics. Brings back fond memories of those old B&B issues.

This page also brings me back to my childhood and I am still mesmerized by the beautiful artwork as I was back then. There's no doubt that Aparo was a masterful inker back then. I think he is one of the greatest American artists along with Kirby, Adams, Swan, Steranko, Buscema & Ditko (to name a few). Congratulations on this acquisition!

The early Aparo Batman is fantastic and this is a great example.

Nicolaj, a superb Jim Aparo panel page! Jim Aparo was the greatest Batman artist of the 1970s! The third panel on the top right stunned me when I saw it. It is a smaller version to a panel from Adventure Comics #435, a Spectre story, from page #7, which I own. The character in both pages is of the reporter named Earl Crawford who interacts with Jim Corrigan aka the Spectre, introduced by Michael Fleisher, the writer; Your page from BB 116 comic is dated Dec 1974/Jan 1975 and Adventure #435 was dated Sept/Oct 1974, only a few months earlier. So apparently Aparo used the same figure in the same pose twice! Incredible, indeed!

For some reason i thought Commissioner Gordon, who Jim Corrigan is speaking to, was Earl Crawford; it is not; the glasses fooled me; so you were correct in your original description of the Spectre! Im sorry, I goofed and I confused you in the process.

I don't think you could get a better classic Aparo. Pencils, inks, letters, Brave and Bold, Bob Haney, The Spectre...wow. Pass these great pages down to future art-lovers in your family! :)

A genuine film noir ambiance on this page. I'm also mesmerized by that Corrigan portrait: not your standard happy-go-lucky type... All this, plus an outstanding lesson at how to make a dialogue page look exciting... Aparo on top of his game!

Aparos B+B's were the best thing after a Neal Adams Bats. And he was the only artist at DC/Marvel in this period who drew, inked and even lettered his pages !
