DescriptionHoward Porter is one of those "true" artists who never stop learning andreinventing themselves. His style has shown a real growth over years; just check his work of 1994 and compare it to his stuff of 1995 and 1996 and then to his stuff of 1998 and so on... and be sure to check the amazing work he's doing these days on JLA 3000 ! Now to this piece; Thanks to a CAF saint, by the name of David A Kopecki (who's bid and paid on my behalf), I was able to win it via an auction from a seller who didn't ship to my country and wasn't even reachable. Not only does this piece comes from a key period in Howard Porter's career (the time he did the JLX one-shot and was preparing for his star-making work on JLA), it also features a MARVEL character ! Porter's work on MARVEL characters is rare and even more so from the period before 2000. It's actually the first classic Spider-man piece I'd seen from him aside from a few con sketches. I really like this pose. It's McFarlane-sque but not as over the top. In this piece he'd inked himself and put an incredible amount of detail in the webbing (I'll try to add a closeup soon). Please click on the image (or the additional images) to see it up close. Sorry if it sounds blasphemous, but I consider Porter's Spidey to be even better than Todd McFarlane's. I'm sure that Marvel would have snagged Howard if they'd seen this piece. If you guys have ANY info on any other Spiderman or X-men piece by Porter (even if NFS), please let me know. As always, comments are welcome and appreciated. Thanks :) Social/Sharing |

Nice mention of McFarlane influence, but let's not forget also the eyes - very Ditko-ish. And if you make that image into a silhouette it would actually be close to a spider. Nice acquisition!

This is a great piece for sure. One of the great things about it is seeing Porter ink himself. So used to him and Dell together, but this is incredible. Congrats.
