Description

Japanese manga writer Kazuo Koike was a special guest at SDCC 2013. I read some of his work as it came out in English in the 1990's. Viz published Mai the Psychic Girl and Crying Freeman drawn by Ryoichi Ikegami. The former was a contemporary teen mutant story and the latter was a modern crime thriller. First Comics released Lone Wolf & Cub, a samurai epic, drawn by Goseki Kojima. The American Lone Wolf comics featured new covers by Frank Miller and Bill Sienkiewicz. First went under before completing the series. Dark Horse printed the complete 28-volume series as small paperbacks, but is now publishing omnibus editions at a size easier for my old eyes.

While I was working the booth during Koike's signing sessions, my friend John went to Dark Horse and purchased the new books for me. Color of Rage tells the story of two westerners, one white and one black, who wash up on Japan's shores. Koike drew a headshot as well as signing the books. Pretty neat for a writer.
