DescriptionSome of my earliest memories of comics involve thinking back to Skottie Young's edgy cover for Cable and Deadpool. I love the disjointed jagged shapes that comprised the anatomy of his characters and they presented an edge to Deadpool that fans always knew was underneath the surface of his loony, carefree attitude.Naturally, I knew at some point, I needed to have a cover like this in my collection. So when I came across an eBay auction Skottie was running for this piece, I had to have it. I love so much about this piece. First, the vertical framing of the page giving us the impression of Venom and Spider Man in a state of freefall. He reinforces this image with the bullets flying out of venom's gun hitting with the shells falling accordingly. Notice the three shells to the right of Superior Spider-Man. It is a careful subconscious hint to the motion of the still image. Second;y, with Agent Venom with are given a good look as his monstrous face, giving us an impression of the character's original roots as an alien creature out to get Spider-Man. It's as if we can get a combination of the old and new. Thirdly, Skottie not only does a great job illustrating the Superior Spider-Man costume but takes great care in evening out his legs so that the extended one on the right doesn't over shadow the bent one on the left. With Skottie mostly doing "Baby version" covers for Marvel, I saw this as a great chance to get a piece that goes against the modern trend of his work. A truly great piece that I am happy to have in my collection. Social/Sharing |

Don't shoot me, but I am not a fan of Skottie's baby superheroes. But when I see some of his other work, such as this one, I can't deny his great talent. Congrats.

This is still one of my faves from Skottie. And hands down Doc Ock is my fave Spider-Man. Dan Slott took the character sideways and made him so much more complex, interesting and entertaining. IMHO.
