Description

Tony Bancroft was co-director on Disney's Mulan and director of the English translation version of Hayao Miyazaki's Porco Rosso. On The Bancroft Brothers facebook page which he shares with his brother Tom, he announced he had some spare time to do commissions. The terms were very agreeable and Tony turned out this fantastic watercolor tribute. On facebook, he also pointed out this youtube clip which comes from the Porco Rosso DVD. Tom added that they went to high school with actress and singer Susan Egan who dubs for Gina in Porco Rosso. She's done several Miyazaki characters in the Disney versions.

Tony wrote Directing for Animation: Everything You Didn't Learn in Art School from Focal Press in 2013. I found it helpful in understanding the animation process better and loved the interviews with Dean Deblois, Pete Docter, Eric Goldberg, Tim Miller, John Musker,Jennifer Yuh Nelson, Nick Park, and Chris Wedge. Tony also has his Lenny & Sid animated DVD from Toonacious Family Entertainment.

Wonderful watercolour from a fun Miyazaki movie which my kids and I enjoyed many years back and still do! Great idea mate and congrats! :)

My favorite Miyazaki movie! Great piece and thank you for including all the information. I must admit, I know nothing about animators and animation.
