Description

This piece is a prelim by Golden Age legend, Dick Sprang, from his end of the century commission work.

When I started this hobby, I wanted to get Catwoman pieces from all the living Golden Age Batman artists. Some, like Ray Burnley and Charles Paris, passed away years ago (60's and early 90's, respectively). But others I had luck with (examples below).

Fortunately for me, Dick kept busy in his later years by taking commissions, so I kept hope that a Catwoman would appear. Finally his agent Ike Wilson began offering Dick's prelim pieces for sale, and as luck had it - this Catwoman showed! As a bonus, it features his creation, the Riddler, along with Two-Face, the Scarecrow, and the Penguin!

I already had a Bob Kane, thanks to a Pittsburgher relocated in CA.

Jerry Robinson? He wouldn't draw her for me. (but I did get a Batman and a Joker from him! Jerry was a very nice guy)
Then came Bob's private ghosts (D.C. paid Bob, and he in turn paid them and kept them off DC's books)
Lew Sayre Schwartz? - ✓ He was wonderful to correspond with, and drew this based on his classic cover.
Shelly Moldoff? - ✓ After years of being unavailable, he started taking commissions with his son's help, briefly before his death.
Jim Mooney? - ✓ He hadn't lost a step!

Others, like Dick Sprang, Jack Burnley, and Win Mortimer passed shortly before I started my theme.
Of these three, it was Dick's singular Catwoman work that is always referenced with Golden Age Catwoman - The Jungle Cat-Queen from Detective Comics 211.
