After a 15(!!) year break I've found myself back to reading Kurt Busiek's Astro City and ~man~ is this thing good (with it's screwy release schedule I'd just been dumping it into the "To Read" box). Easily one of the best comics out there today. Even went back and re-read the thing from the beginning. I mean, really, how is Lord Vulcanus not the coolest villain of the last decade :) So many cool characters - Mock Turtle, Mirage, Steeljack, PYRAMID ...

Realized that there's no Marvel Handbook kinda deal for them I knew I had to fix that, at least in part ;) From the picture-perfect pencils of Terrific TJ Frias I give you ... the Honor Guard! Or, at least, my favorite members of the Guard. It's Starfighter, Winged Victory and Supersonic in the back row and then Mirage, the modern Cleopatra, Atomicus and the Silver Agent in the front. In the corner boxes are the baddies. You've got Madame Majestrix, the Sekhmet Stone of PYRAMID, the Maharajah of Maga-Dhor and Lord Volcanus himself!

Don' even know where to begin with how good this is. Great faces on Silver Agent and Cleopatra. Superb mustache on Starfighter. That gleeful smile on Supersonic's face. The wonderful placement on Mirage. And all the corner boxes are spot on! Some truly great work from TJ.

There's soooo much goodness in Astro City I feel a Ballard coming on ...

Man! Where do you find these guys? I hadn't heard of TJ Frias until now. He nailed this one.Only thing that would have made this better is Jack-in-the-Box,even though he isn't an Honor Guard member! Love the layout!
