Jackson Guice - DETECTIVE COMICS #500 promo - Beyond The Clock fanzine (1980)

When this piece was up for sale, I knew it was right for me:

it's got Batman, it's by one of my favorite artists and
it's related to a big anniversary issue (a good companion piece
to my ACTION COMICS #700 cover).

The seller promoted it as if it was somehow connected to BATMAN #500.
I guess Batman bursting through the big 500 gave that impression.

However, to me something didn't add up - Jackson "Butch" Guice was already
part of the Superman creative team when BATMAN #500 was around the corner.
The inking and lettering also looked to be done in a bit of a different style
than the one he was using in early '90s.

So I did some digging and with the help of Spencer Beck I got the correct info:
The piece was not promoting BATMAN #500 but DETECTIVE COMICS #500 !!!

Here is the info that Butch Guice himself had provided:

"That piece was done for a Batman fanzine called "Beyond The Clock" --
sometime around 1979 or 1980 -- a couple of years before I started working
at Marvel on Micronauts. I did a handful of covers, some spot drawings for articles,
and even a few two and/or three page comic stories for it over the course of six
months or so. As best as I recall, this refers to the fact Detective Comics #500
was then coming up in numbering, which should help place it date-wise.

Can't recall the name of the guy who published it. I do know Dick Giordano saw
those fanzines. He told me a few years later he thought I showed a raw potential
and had been trying to track me down but had been unable to do so, and then I
popped up at Marvel."

Very cool, eh ?
