DescriptionBelieve it or not,I had always planned to use this Iconic cover for the conclusion of this chapter in my Nova fantasy cover series. Even more ironic that it follows the last cover, which was also borrowed from Amazing Spider-man. Thanks go out to John Romita and Greg Woronchak for providing me with this rather amazing cover. This was my first commission with Greg, and it certainly won't be my last. Great guy to deal with, especially if your looking for a cover recreation. Thanks Greg!Previously: Nova has just returned from a successful but harrowing trip through time to undo a tragedy that left his girlfriend Ginger Jaye on deaths door. Thinking that the possibility of his being Nova may do more harm than good, Richard Rider decides to hang up the helmet and call it quits. Now: Richard Rider is no longer Nova and feeling good about it. The pressure and worry over the safety of his friends and loved ones has been lifted from his shoulders. Watching the nightly news with his family Rich catches a newsflash that The Titanium Man is on a rampage in NYC. Before he can even entertain the thought of becoming Nova again he witnesses Iron-Man arriving on the scene. “Good” he thinks to himself,”It's his villain anyway”. Rich turns off the news and calls Ginger for a get together. The two head to a local diner that they frequent often and enjoy a meal together. On the way home,Rich and Ginger spot smoke a block away and decide to investigate. An apartment building is ablaze and local firefighters have yet to make the scene. Screams for help can be heard from within. Nova or not, Rich has to do something and tells Ginger to wait on the Fire Department as he makes a rush for the front entrance. A young mother and toddler are making their way out of the building. The woman tells Rich her infant daughter is trapped on the third floor and begs him to help. Even without costume Rich possesses the powers of Nova. Rich flies to the third floor where he hears the crying infant behind the blocked door to her room. He pushes on the door hard enough to gently remove it from it's hinges,a feat he could no have done without his powers. He grabs the crying child and flies back to the first floor, dodging falling flaming debris. He makes his way to the mother with his cloths singed buy himself unharmed. The baby is also fine, and the mother overcome with joy. She hugs Rich and thanks him for saving the life of her daughter, tears in her eyes. Ginger watches in disbelief, herself emotional, as the Firefighters arrive on the scene. Ginger expresses to Rich what a heroic deed he just did and how glad she was that they(and he)were on the scene. “You saved a life today Richard Rider” Ginger tells him. The two part until tomorrow, and Rich realizes that his being Nova was meant to be for one reason or another. He thinks to himself that “With great power comes great responsibility”(Had to do it). He will learn more about that in the next issue of his regular comic when he meets the Amazing Spider-man for the first time. This was a fun cover series for me work on,with a line-up of superstar artists who have my thanks. Nova will return with me in the pages of Marvel Team-Up(He should have starred in at least one issue),coming soon! Not the end! Social/Sharing |
