DescriptionMy first Chiriacka painting. This was done for a 1951 paperback edition of Henry Bellamann's novel, "Kings Row," published as the second title ever released under the Cardinal imprint by Pocket Books. Pocket Book created the Cardinal editions in 1951 as a 35¢ label. The books sported a gold spine, while Pocket Book’s regular 25¢ volumes transitioned to the silver spine.Initially published in 1940, Kings Row was eventually made into a feature film in 1942 starring Ann Sheridan, Robert Cummings, and Ronald Reagan. In the film, Reagan's character, Drake McHugh, has both legs amputated. When he wakes up after the operation, he delivers the most memorable line of the film, "Where's the REST of me???" Reagan ended up using that line as the title of his 1965 autobiography. http://youtu.be/K217rguXSXI Social/Sharing |

Wow, how great to see some more vintage paperback art on CAF. Such an early and lovely Chiriaka, too! Congratulations, Fred!
