Description

This is the original art for a Curt Swan Superman model sheet. This piece is rare because it is INKED by Curt Swan. He had such a tight pencil style but a rather loose inking style. Julie Schwartz would give copies of this piece to all his artists to follow how he wanted Superman drawn. My dad still has a copy of it in his reference files.
Julie gave me this original as a gift after I took him food shopping one night. I remember that night we ate dinner at Ben's Kosher deli. Lots of great stories. We miss you Julie!

What a terrific piece of history that is! His look for Superman remains definitive even after all this time.

This sheet is an example of why I really love Curt Swan's work. He had unique faces and expressions for all of his characters especially the Legion. Very nice.

You may want to check out the Swan and Klein page in my CAF Gallery. It's got a great second panel with an example of Swan's Superman facial expression, too. When I saw my original, I thought immediately of this model sheet! Great pick-up, Frank!

All you have to see is Supes face in order to know that Curt Swan's behind the art. This is just an incredible piece. My words fail me once again.
