Description

Occult and horror themed comics regained their popularity in the early 70s at Marvel with Ghost Rider and Tomb of Dracula leading the way. Originally called The Mark of Satan, starring the devil himself as the main character, Roy Thomas suggested a character that was the son of the devil instead and Daimon Hellstrom was born! Hellstrom would struggle with either following in his father's (cloven) footsteps like his evil sister Satana or in those of better men. The Son of Satan debuted in Ghost Rider 1 in September 1973 and in October of that same year starred in the try-out title Marvel Spotlight. Sales of Marvel Spotlight were high and the Son of Satan was rewarded his very own title in December 1975.

Drawn by the incredibly dynamic and prolific Gil Kane, Daimon Hellstrom and a cast of some of the swarthiest characters Marvel ever created grace this action packed cover. We find the Son of Satan pitted against his Evil Self, Ghost Rider and Hellstrom's menacingly beautiful sister Satana (not to mention the horde of demons looking to get in on the action too)! Kane's line work is classic and his cover work was staggeringly prolific, but few are as action packed as this one! With a resurgence in interest in horror titles from this comic era and so few covers starring the Son of Satan (let alone alongside Ghost Rider), this rare piece should not be overlooked! Art is in excellent condition.
