Description

This is a holy grail piece. As I told Kevin, my holy trinity of comic book artists is Brian Bolland, Alan Davis and him. Therefore, to finally get a commission from him was a dream come true. I gave Kevin 11 possible concepts for this commission and asked that he go with what inspires him. I am so happy with the results.

Further, my two favorite DC characters are Animal Man and Firestorm. The prime comic collecting of my youth was from 1987-1990 and I was swept up by the British Invasion, especially Grant Morrison and his famous run on Animal Man.

My little brother was born in 1988 and, while we were waiting at the hospital for his delivery, my aunt brought me a large box of Bronze Age DC comics left by her tenants that abandoned their apartment and their overdue rent. That box contained the first 67 issue run of Firestorm. I devoured them. I have always thought Firestorm was one of the most powerful characters in the DC universe but never treated as such. Maybe the Flash TV series will help his public awareness.

This is the magic of commissions. You read the published works of these artists always hoping they would one day draw your favorite character or draw your favorite character again in a special way that you have always desired. A commission allows you to make that wish a reality and then to own that unique moment so you can be its caretaker.
