Young Avengers 5 page 7 Kang the Conqueror defeats Captain America and Iron Man

This great splash page is from the first arc of Young Avengers during which Iron Lad is confronted by his future self-- Kang the Conqueror! Kang is one of the best Avengers villains and this is my favorite Kang story of all time! In this particular scene, Kang has come to the ever-changing present day and stands above the defeated Avengers threatening the life of Captain America in exchange for handing over his younger self, Iron Lad. Kang wants to mentor his younger self into becoming the super villain he knows he will one day be. Iron Lad's resistance begins altering the timestream and Kang destroys the Avengers to provoke the rage in Iron Lad. While Kang has been featured in many Avengers stories since issue 8, rarely has he been seen in such form.

Jim Cheung's work is unreal to see up close. He's a master of composition and is a detailed cartoonist but never lets it detract from the storytelling and rarely overworks a page. John Dell's inks are breathtakingly meticulous and are perfectly paired with Jim's pencils.
