Description

Howard Chaykin made a stop at Amazing! Houston Comic Con over Labor Day weekend 2015. I've admired Howard's work, especially Iron Wolf, Cody Starbuck, Scorpion/Dominic Fortune, and American Flagg!, and I enjoy talking to him. He had a number of "scraps" of art with him at the show which were really inexpensive. I saw this parachutist and admired it. Though I'd reached my con budget already, I went ahead and bought it.

On the back, it mentions Black Kiss which I have not read. Despite this "clue," the piece turned out to be from Howard's Shadow mini-series.

Also, the "scraps" weren't scraps. Rather they reflect the way that Howard does his work these days. Howard wrote to me recently saying, "I now do my figures and backgrounds on separate sheets, and combine them in photoshop. Everything on that table had seen print."

So, I got something better than I thought and got even more background information on it.

One day, I'll get an Ironwolf cover-style commission from him. Update: I did get that commission.
