Description

Each page of my Belle sketchbook has been an adventure and Mark's contribution is epic. AS the first color page, Mark has thrown down the gauntlet set by Jay Anaceleto and Heather Theurer's page preceding his addition. Mark's style is unique and his background in animation can be seen in each lovely stroke and element. Belle herself is contemplative and a true Beauty. Lumiere is illuminating in both his presence and spirit. The Beast is both savage and majestic with elements Glen Keane which would make Glen Keane proud. The castle evokes another age. Perhaps Mark put it best in his Facebook post:

"I ultimately decided to try and pay homage to the movie itself and also, its influence on popular culture so the elements - while a fairly loose drawing - are made up of those different aspects. A Cosplay type model beautiful in her exquisite gown, makeup and presence - all of which are works of art in their own right. A character from the final movie (Luminaire) and then pre-production concepts both the castle and the beast. I also wanted the beast to be a wild mash of lines which imply his character, offset against the radiant calmness of Belle."
