Description
I wanted to get a commission based on the "notorious", unreleased Batman #41 variant cover. If you're unfamiliar with it, Rafael Albuquerque did a cover as an homage to "The Killing Joke". In the cover, The Joker is standing behind Batgirl, with an arm over her shoulder, holding a gun, and, with his other hand, smearing red paint over her mouth in the shape of a smile. Barbara Gordon has a terrified look on her face, and tears welling up in her eyes. Immediately DC received protests as people accused them of being misogynists, and they pulled the cover before release. Apparently many people still dislike "The Killing Joke" because of the way Barbara Gordon was abused in it. I, on the other hand, LOVE "The Killing Joke"! Just like all sane people, I am against the abuse of women, but The Joker is a lunatic, and the purpose of having him commit those acts is to show just how evil he is, and to add conflict to the story. Anyway, back to the art...Unable to get the original art for that cover, I searched for someone to do a recreation. I decided instead to have Harley Quinn replace Batgirl, and making a face of mock terror. Joker's gun is replaced by the laughing fish(wiki it, it's strange), and he's wearing his traditional suit, instead of his clothes from "The Killing Joke" that appeared on the above mentioned cover. I was able to get Thony Silas(Batman Beyond) to do the commission for me, and it turned out FANTASTIC!
