Mike Mayhew created this tragic but compelling cover showing the fate of Captain Apollo for the first issue of Battlestar Galactica: Death of of Apollo, a 2014 series from Dynamite. Battlestar Galactica: Death of of Apollo revives the continuity of the original late 1970s TV series. The series chronicles the final days of Captain Apollo, the bold starfighter portrayed by actor Richard Hatch. This was an event hinted at during official TV series continuity but never before revealed.

When Battlestar Galactica first aired in 1978, Captain Apollo stood out as the central character of the series, After the original series came to an end in 1979, the sequel series Galactica 1980 continued the tale, but set years after the events of the previous run. Captain Apollo was no longer in the cast and it was implied that the hero had died sometime in the past. This series finally fills in the gap over 30 years later.
