DescriptionAs a part of working out plots for the Crusaders All-New Adventures covers I, as all good geeks do, started compiling lists of all Archie's super heroes. You wouldn't know it by looking at the 80's or any of the newer series but they actually have a whole mess of characters. Once I started to play around with the idea of other series to spotlight Archie's smaller heroes the concept of a team-up series made a lot of sense. Since the Jaguar's secret identity has him traveling the world as an archaeologist it seemed a perfect fit. One beautiful logo from Chris Ivy later things were up and running.The African Lost World that was introduced in Adventures of the Fly #10 was just to cool. Not only did it have your standard issue dinosaurs but it also had giant King Kong sized gorillas. To rope in various other African characters like Kalthar ("the giant man king of the jungle") and the Leopard Men (from MadHouse #95) to have a "centralized" African lost world makes the OCD in me happy. Emmanuel Javier is a great artist I stumbled across over on deviantArt. I'd wanted to get something from him for the longest time but he was always busy. When he did open up his commission list and we started talking the whole thing ended up with Emmanuel agreeing to do a set of covers like David Bednarski did. The detail on this first cover is amazing. At first I didn't even want to get it lettered. You have got to check out the unlettered version below. The jungle looks amazing and the Leopard Men just beautiful. Emmanuel is a great artist and a great, great guy. I'm really glad that this isn't the only Crusaders he'll be doing. As always, I hope Crusaders fans approve :) Original size 11x17 ------- In This Issue ... The Jaguar - now in his own series! While on an archaeological dig in Africa Ralph Hardy discovers a new entrance to the legendary Lost World! Not seen since the 1960's, this antediluvian world is home to dinosaurs and giant apes alike. Watched over by Kalthar, the giant man-king of the jungle, the land has had many years of peace. Now, though, the Leopard People have attempted to kidnap one of the land's giant apes to use a weapon and its friends aren't very happy! Can our heroes stop a giant ape revolt? This Issue's Cover ... Jaguar and Kalthar explore the Lost World unawares that they are being watch by the Leopard Men. Social/Sharing |

Yes Yes Yes...reminds me of the old Tarzan movie where he went up against the Leopard Queen. Nice artwork all round

I love everything about this piece---the layout, perspective, inks, trade dress, etc. My only complaint is that I can't go buy this issue at the local drugstore!

Great. And with digital art, you _can_ have your cake and eat it, too; you can have it with and without the cover treatment.
