DescriptionThis is a Superman daily from 1959. Several resources list the tile of the story arc (including the IDW collection of Silver Age Superman Dailies) as The Captive of the Amazons (strips 6518-6596; 30 Oct 1959 - 6 Feb 1960). The story began when Clark and Lois were sent to write a story about a new science fiction movie starring a hot new star, Jena. Jena chose Clark to be her co-star and he accepted not realizing that she was really after Superman... with the intention of making him her mate. They travel to her home planet ruled by Amazon women and the men are all meek and timid. When Superman refuses her advances and returns to earth, Jena removes his powers (not explained how) and Clark must use his wits to protect Lois. Jimmy and Perry in a hidden valley full of prehistoric and giant monsters. While not in costume, this daily shows Clark in Jena's power, and reveling that she knows his true identity, on the way to her home planet. While it has been mentioned here many times before, this is another example of poorly handling and not preserving original art. Someone (and this came through Philip Weiss' auctions and then eBay) trimmed the daily right to the border before matting it. I have no idea why, or even how that would help the framing process. It just messed up a nice daily. Social/Sharing |
