Description

Lovely advertisement illustration for The American Home Magazine (Doubleday - July, 1947) The piece is large, with an image size measuring 13" x 15.5" and is sublimely executed in rendered pencil and ink wash - one of my favorite combinations.

The artist is unknown at this time, but this illustration was done for a Personal Accident Insurance Advertisement with the artwork itself being very reminiscent of the great Alex Raymond's work, which is what attracted me to this wonderful piece in the first place. If anyone can enlighten me as who the artist is, I would be much obliged.

The elegant innocence and grace of this artwork is simply remarkable.

Stunning. Beautifully rendered and sexy as hell in the way that only the best illustrations can manage. Fantastic piece- try running a Google image comparison search for the artist.

I like this piece a lot! Not sure if this helps, but that woman is holding the April 1947 issue of The American Home, so it is probably from either that issue or another issue that year. In October 1947, the cover price went from 15c to 25c, so I would say it's a pretty good bet it was used in an issue prior to October, which should narrow it down to one of six issues.

Thanks for the keen observation, Fred. I will use this information to try and figure out which issue it was from so I can get the piece stated up with the proper text.

Hey Fred, Did some research via your advise and discovered that it is an Personal Accident Insurance Advertisement from The American Home Magazine from July, 1947 issue. Thanks again for the information!

That's awesome! Doing the detective work to track down what these old illustrations were used for is a big part of the fun, I think!
