Description

As part of working out plots for the Crusaders All-New Adventures covers I started compiling lists of all Archie's heroes, as all good geeks do. You wouldn't know it by looking at the 80's or any of the newer series but they actually have a whole mess of them. So many that even including as many as I felt I could in the Crusaders there were still lots left. As the idea of the Crusaders covers was to continue and "expand" the Archie universe it struck me that a companion series, like Marvel Spotlight, would be a perfect way to showcase the rest of their universe. Lots of bad series titles later the obvious hit me and Red Circle Spotlight it was.

Believe it or not but Archie actually has two Herculeses (Herculi?). There's a golden age version who's reminiscent of Marvel's gods (part myth and part sci-fi) but with Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon as the inspiration as opposed to Kirby. Their 60's Hercules, though, was straight out of Greek mythology. Rather than try to smush them into one it seemed like an appropriate comic book answer to just split the two between two worlds. I'd decided to create an "Earth 2" called Alter-Earth where the British versions of the Shield and Black Hood lived with the evil versions of the Wizard and Hangman and dropping the classical Greek version of Hercules fit right in. Another great cover from MC. A nice down and dirty slugfest! As always, I hope Crusaders fans approve :)

In This Issue ...

Earth-Alpha's Hercules suddenly finds himself on Alter-Earth! Who, or what, is behind his amazing feat? Could it be Herc's old nemesis Professor Kosmos or possibly the Abominable Schemer? When he finds himself face to face with is Alter-Earth self, though, things become much more complicated. Can the Alter-Earth version of Hercules help our hero get home? Maybe, if they don't end up killing each other first!
