DescriptionUpdate: This commission is even more delicious thanks to inks from Bob Almond!Previously... As a kid, the ads in comic books were a window to world filled with strange, fascinating and often unattainable products. There weren't any people in my neighborhood selling GRIT newspapers and I knew in my heart that I was missing out on something crucial. ICEE frozen drinks? Forget it. Baby Ruth chocolate bars? Sorry, pal. The same was true for the Hostess family of Twinkies, Cupcakes and Fruit Pies. Especially the fruit pies. Local distribution was poor and product selection was virtually non-existent. This scarcity of supply only added to their legend. The heart yearns for that which it cannot have. Which brings me to today. In my never-ending quest to twist and contort my "Thing" team up / Two in One art theme in new and different ways, I've gone back to those Hostess ads of yesteryear - focusing on the ones that starred the ever-lovin' idol of millions. I sent the four ads seen at left to artist Val Semeiks, stepped away and let Val do his magic. Val came up with the premise of the Thing defending the contents of an overturned Hostess truck, which is a brilliant way of tying all these pieces together. Needless to say, I am very happy with the final result. Social/Sharing |

One of the things on my " to Do " list when I moved to the USA was to try Hostess Twinkies after years of seeing these ad's. Let's just say Val & Bob's work, unlike some other things, will never be a source of disappointment !

Genius! I long for the days when most any problem could be solved by a generous dose of Hostess fruit pies. Very nice work all around!
