Description

Mahmud is an artist I wanted to meet for a long time. He is well known for doing Steampunk renditions of characters but I fell in love with his art while reading his recent All new X-men stuff. Mahmud only does 1 or 2 shows in the US a year so I went to New York Comic Con to basically just get a piece from him. Since Mahmud is open to "interesting" requests I wanted to see his take on "Hipster X-men" that I started with Todd Nauck. I really only had one character in mind for Mahmud to draw and he absolutely shocked me with the result.

Honestly, Mahmud put in all the details and everything about the piece is fantastic. The outfit, the expression, choice of items, just nailed the theme. I love the little touches like the X and Phoenix buttons. The black and white feel with the contrasting shock of red hair is beautiful, while being appropriate to what a Hipster would do. The combo of the old camera and of course a smartphone, just everything about the piece is lovely. I couldn't be more pleased with everything Mahmud chose to do and I hope that I can get another piece from him in 2016.
