Description

This is a grail piece for me. The JSA revival is the team that got me started into comics in the late 1970's. THE artist of that period of the JSA is Joe Staton. I contacted Joe and asked him to recreate the splash page from the JSA's origin in DC Special #29, adding the Huntress and tweaking a few of the character costumes. Joe took it on himself to redesign the page slightly so that several of the characters are much more visible. It just worked out that Joe finished this around the time of Baltimore Comic Con 2016, so I was able to pick this up in person. It was SUCH a great experience! This is the only time I have gotten a commission when the artist was excited to see me!! Joe said this was a labor of love for him. He said he both enjoyed revisiting the characters and seeing how his drawing style had changed over the last 40 years. Paul Levitz, the writer of the original story was also at the show, and he enjoyed seeing this recreation and telling stories from that period. Thanks Joe!
