DescriptionThe obviously missing link in the Starlin trinity I had always wanted: Adam Warlock is now joining Captain Marvel and Thanos in my gallery. While this is pure happenstance, both Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock's portraits are greatly enhanced by the magical inks of Al Milgrom who adds a stunning starscape on both... Obviously, the original multi-part, multi-level saga of Adam Warlock has always been a strong favourite of mine since I discovered it in the mid-seventies. I had already been quite taken by the Roy Thomas/Mike Friedrich rendition (beautifully illustrated by the power of Gil Kane) with its religious overtones clearly reminiscent of Stan Lee and John Buscema's Silver Surfer, but Jim Starlin's view of the character was clearly in a field of its own! The complete Captain Marvel/Adam Warlock/Thanos saga is so perfect, so self-contained (even in its loose ends!) that I always end up coming back to it for another furious ride into the cosmic side of life... And even if some of the ulterior outtings of Jim Starlin's signature characters have been frankly brilliant, I do think the original saga still cannot be topped! Oh! And one last thing I like in this portrait of Adam Warlock: he looks as grim here as Captain Marvel is on his own portrait, both certainly quite happy to meet once again with their arch-nemesis Thanos! This is the story of their lives... Social/Sharing |

Absolutely stunning commission of Adam Warlock by the dynamic Jim Starlin and the incredible Al Milgom. Warlock is one of those characters that you automatically think of when you think of cosmic beings. Since Starlin was one of the people who did the most to create the character of Adam Warlock, he's the perfect artist to recreate that character. Here Starlin does a fantastic job of rendering the cosmic being floating over an alien landscape while hundreds of moons and stars and planets fill the sky above him. Gorgeous inks by Milgrom finish the piece perfectly. It's a stunning piece of art that really brings to life the cosmic being who keeps the galaxy, indeed the Universe itself, safe.

Thanks Bill! Jim Starlin did a wonderful job with Adam Warlock, driving him through many incarnations. But I think this temperamental version neatly sums up the character! And, I agree, Al Milgrom did a great job aligning all the stars for this one...
