The Marvel Bullpen fed horror-themed comic fans what they were craving with the introduction of Werewolf by Night. They busily piled on to the horror craze of the early 1970s as Marvel readers chose from Astonishing Tales, Dead of Night, Vault of Evil, Where Monsters Dwell, Tomb of Dracula, Fear, and Uncanny Tales every month. During the title's 43-issue run, Werewolf by Night presented some of the most-enduring horror art of the era by some creators who are now legends. Gil Kane was one of the most-prolific artists of the 1960s and 1970s who was revered for his work on theHal Jordan Green Lantern series for DC. Kane created numerous covers and interiors for both Marvel and DC throughout his career.

A fan favorite for years, Kane's style was all his own and was very distinctive due to his heavy use of thick brush strokes and engrossing perspective. Here, Mike Esposito deftly inks over Kane's pencils on this cover of Werewolf By Night 20. The finest details of our anti-hero are evident as he makes his escape from a cage. Covers by Gil Kane don't come up for sale or auction very often and this is a great one! What a terrific chance to own a one-of-a-kind piece of original artwork from one of the finest artists of the era.
