Description

Yes I know there is The Time Machine, Treasure Island, and Prisoner of Zenda, Classics Illustrated and Steve Canyon Four Color in 1956, but I have some doubts on whether they are really George Wilson's. Wilson definitively did the last 8 issues of White Eagle, Indian Chief, starting in what was either 1956 or 1957.

I welcome anyone's insight into this. I have ordered a copy of The Time Machine to see if George Wilson is specifically listed as the painter of the cover. Scratch that. Just found it online. Not one mention in the entire comic book about the painter. Grand Comics Database doesn't list either Treasure Island or Prisoner of Zenda as being drawn by Wilson, but the owner of the Prisoner of Zenda painting told me that the Classics Illustrated book on the subject does. And Steve Canyon Four Color has a question mark beside it as being the work of George Wilson in the Grand Comics Database. Becattini states The Time Machine, Treasure Island and Steve Canyon Four Color are George Wilsons, but makes no mention of the Prisoner of Zenda. What a mess, huh?

I will leave you with this. Only Indian Chief 26 and The Time Machine from 1956/1957 are attributed to Wilson clearly by all sources, and also attributed by the Grand Comics Database with no question mark, and finally that Becattini recognizes as Wilsons also.

I saw this cover for sale many years ago at the Pittsburg Comicom.

I am still kicking myself in the behind for not buying it.
