A very nice half splash from Axis by Jim Cheung.

Axis may not have been a great crossover event, but it didn't lack in the art department, at the very least regarding Jim's contribution.

Here we have a verrrrry nice Thor with his axe, fantastic use of moody blacks, something you don't usually see in a Cheung page.

This may be due to Mark Morales' inking who is used to ink Olivier Coipel pencils. This was an interesting point for me that Mark inked that page actually as I find many similarities between Cheung and Coipel's styles. And I think having Mark inks over Jim tends to underline those similarities. Plus, I'm a sucker for cross-hatching. Silly, I know but it works very well with me ^^

The page also reminds me of the old Jim Cheung Scion days (the title on which he exploded artistically in my opinion) as featuring a helmetless Thor and his axe throws a more fantasy feeling over the page.

Great shot of Thor. Love the inking job here - killer use of shadow. Another birthday winnner! Congrats!

This is simply stunning, and you are spot on about the "infusion" of Coipel-ness that Mr. Morales insinuates into the page - to GREAT effect. A marvelous portrayal of the Odinson; heavy with atmosphere and delicious cross-hatching (I'm with you ;) ). I've never read 'Axis' but your gallery is going quite the ways to entice me into rectifying that... Awesome page.
