This magnificent Rudy Palais piece exhibits excellent composition and adept skill at capturing motion. The action flies over the page. This is a prime example of how publishers grabbed the reader's attention as they perused the funny books on a corner newsstand. Cat-Man, an obvious attempt to cash in on a similarly named, but historically more-successful DC franchise, needed original and thrilling art on his covers to encourage young readers to steer away from the competition. That is not to say that Bob Kane's work doesn't have an elusive charm all its own, but the styles are noticeably disparate.

We can't stress what a unique opportunity this lot represents, so we'll only note that if Dr. Indiana Jones were here he'd say, "this art belongs in a museum." He might be right. But, being a collector is like being the curator of your own museum, with a lifetime of research and fandom providing the keen few who appreciate such works a degree in pop-culture lore. Tempus fugit ergo carpe diem, dear readers, Cat-Man comics themselves can be difficult to find, but original art from the title is truly rare indeed.
