Description

Graphite pencil on 8.5 x 11 vellum board.

I came across this piece on eBay and had to get it. I love the strong posture, the intense gaze, and the flowing hair. I really dig the shading, too, check out the area around her neck and shoulder and the muscle definition on her upper arm. Reminds me a bit of Leinil Yu’s work.

I didn’t know anything about the artist, only credited as “Noora”, but when I asked the seller he could tell me that his name is Rodel Noora. He used to work in comics back in the ‘90s and then in one of the biggest animation studios in the Philippines in the ‘00s. Turns out his credits include penciling an issue of Todd McFarlane’s Spawn together with Philip Tan. Pretty cool!
