The real question is, was this drawn before or after Return of the Jedi?!? Wally was weird, but that would be off the scale...

I've mentioned this to some of the previous owners, but Mike Zeck Woody on this piece. Mike can tell you which parts he worked on, but thought it should warrant a credit.

Perhaps my memories from 45 years ago can shed some light on this Wallace Wood original art. When Woody came up with the idea for this particular piece he'd just seen STAR WARS and loved the possibilities for the WWWSFP. SW was all fresh and new at the time. Woody did mention to me the possible copyright violation but after consulting with an attorney felt the use would be protected under the fair use for parody, not unlike MAD. So he went ahead with it after sending me an 8 1/2"x 11" pencil layout. Yes, Woody did the layout on this and various components and other parts are finished by his crew of apprentices. One mistake in your description is calling the art "the famous cease and desist" piece. There was never any cease and desist order regarding this art or the Portfolio. As the publisher I sure would have known. For a bit of back story on the path of the art I purchased all the art to the Portfolio from Wood in two parts. As a part of our contract for the Portfolio I was to receive half of the originals. As the other part of the art transfer I paid him $5,000 additional for the other five originals plus the cover (which I never received from him). Yes, I paid him about 4x what the originals were worth at the time but I considered it supporting a talent and a thank you for the years of enjoyment I'd gotten from his work. When I sold the art, I sold it in a lot to Mitch Itkowitz for $1,000 per piece. Since then the pieces have changed hands many times. It was an honor and a priviledge to work with and get to know Woody. And, yes, like any fan publisher of the time I still have a case of the Portfolios in my warehouse. One of these days I'll break them out and list them on eBay...I'm pretty sure most of them are the first numbers from 1-100 and have the special limited edition slipcase and bonus color Plate. I have dozens of letters from Woody that I've published in fanzines from time-to-time and since I now have the time I intend to collect them along with color slides I took during visits to Wood's home and studio in Derby, CT. Once a fanzine publisher, always a fanzine publisher.
