DescriptionOriginal artwork for Lady Death The Odyssey #1 page 6 (Chaos Comics, 1996) by Steven Hughes (pencils and inks). From the opening chapter entitled, "Crossroads" this alluring scene features the very first appearance of the angelic Valkyrie VANDALA, who discovers her half-sister Hope (Lady Death), drifting waywardly in the void between worlds. Vandala has been searching for the Chosen One and believes Hope to be that very being herself. The voice of Vandala prompts Lady Death to, "Embrace her destiny!", and to, "Declare your future!" Lady Death stubbornly resists and Vandala laments, "There is so much power, so much spirit in her, but she's HAUNTED by her past. FEARFUL of her destiny!" The Judgment Era is coming for the Fallen Angels and Lady Death has the central role to fulfill, and thus, in desperation, Vandala sends Hope to the great jungle domain called Manicore, to undergo the Three Tests: Heroism, Loyalty and Bravery. With her vast powers, Vandala chooses to watch over Hope (Lady Death), to teach her and guide her unto the right path.Beyond any doubt, this artwork is extremely key indeed! It represents, not only the very first story appearance of Vandala, but the very first time we actually see her full form from her front side in this epic tale. We get a glimpse of her backside two pages before this one, but this is the first time we see her face - one of the few good characters of this entire saga. Key pages such as this one from such popular books are extremely rare and seldom seen by any collectors at any time. And, this one does not disappoint in the slightest - a key and dramatic scene depicting the first appearance of a beautiful heroine and very important character in the history of Lady Death. This totally fresh art has never been seen before, locked away in a private collection of Steven Hughes for decades, ever since he originally drew it, until now. Signed by Hughes in top margin in pencil. How COOL is that? Social/Sharing |
