Description

This art is actually composed of three pieces of illustration board. If you look closely you should be able to see seams just above and just below the illustration art. This puzzled me at first since I have never seen any other Simon and Kirby art constructed in this manner. Then it occurred to me that the art itself was originally intended as cover art but for whatever reason they decided not to use it for that purpose. The published cover art for the first two Police Trap issues are equally as good. But unlike the published covers, the art in this piece has more speech balloons. If excessive text was what made this art unsuitable as a cover, it was a strength when used as a pinup. So they cut off the original cover title and replaced it with the upper text portion. The original bottom of the art did not enough room for the text they wanted, so it was also cut off and replaced. In the end the art as a pinup is IMO better than it would have been as a cover.

I really love the layers of depth in this piece. From the two officers in the foreground, to the busy scene at the desk, to the small group in the hallway. Just a masterful drawing by The King.
