Description

Checkmate is one of my favorite comic book series of all time. I started with knowing nothing about it when I read issue #13 back in '90 I think. Bought it from a used books store, so finding the rest of the issues were hard to find. I finally read the whole series back in 2003! LOL. Then with a little more digging I learned that the series started it's roots in Action Comics #598. At that time I didn't know yet that OAs could be purchased. Looking for this piece I felt hopeless since it's a first appearance, John Byrne Piece, and 30 years old now. BUT, out of the blue a fellow CAF member (Brandon) emailed me saying he saw the piece in the wild but was snatched up already. I tried my luck contacting John's rep and to my surprise he still has it!

Incredible page !! I love seeing first appearance pages and this is one of the best I'd seen ! The Checkmate Knight costume was an instant classic, with it's slick and smart design and with the combination of styles of two artists I greatly admire makes this page a true gem !

I know how much you like Checkmate so this is definitely a great addition. And being a 1st app Byrne piece makes it even sweeter. Congrats bro.

Amazing page and story. I have a page from the first issue that always stuck with me and I thought was a page I would never actually get, because how often do you see Checkmate pages? But lo and behold, I saw it on ebay and was able to grab it super cheap! Congrats again!
