DescriptionHappenstance...I was keping an eye on this page, a nifty John Buscema action page with just the right Avengers team for me - Thor (+ guest-star Lady Sif), the Vision and the Sacrlet Witch (getting slowly but surely attracted to each other), Hawkeye (still in his short-lived, but much appreciated by me, Barry Windsor-Smith designed costume) and... The Black Panther (whose character I have always loved - check my Avengers 87 page for additional comments) So, when this treasure came under the hammer, I was more than ready to fight for it, even though, at that precise moment, I was at the movies with my son enjoying... the Black Panther! Yup! I'll have to try that stunt again... With so many great movies coming, it could be a help for my collection! Going back to this page, I obviously found other reasons to be attracted to it, like Mjolnir in action (Kra-Koom!), the panicked swamp-men posse in the wonderful middle-panel and the classic John Buscema figures in the last 2 panels. Full credits also are due to Mr Jim Mooney, whose inks are really shining here! Social/Sharing |

Really gorgeous page for all the reasons you mentioned. A great pairing of artists can produce magic.

Thanks Michael! I always had some sort of soft spot for this intermediary period of the Avengers, stuck between the Kree-Skrull war and the Avengers/Defenders royal crossover: lots of nifty stories and highly-talented big- name artists. What could have been wrong, then?... Also, Big John + Jim M is a great unusual team!

Thanks Alessio! Stunning could be another surname for John Buscema!

Thanks! Yes the Black Panther movie is ultra-cool. It looks like part of my family can't help but yelling "Wakanda Forever"every hour or so! And I did consider running the auction for the page you got. I finally by-passed it because I already had this one. But, yes, I know how you feel and I'm glad it found a good home!

You are so right about Mooney's inks. His handling of light and shade on the figures in the middle panel really adds to the sense of terror. That issues was fantastic, and this is a lovely page from it. Great page!
