Description

Kreigh Collins: Kevin the Bold Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 6-17-65 (NEA, 1965). It is the fair Louise Essex who is Bold in this episode, as she realizes she has been blinded by love and not attempts to set things aright. Lovely images of Louise and the British countryside created in ink over graphite on thick illustration board with an image area of 24.25" x 15.75".
Provenance: Heritage.

Kreigh Collins (1908-1974) was an American cartoonist, illustrator and painter. He was the creator of the comic strip Kevin the Bold.

Born in Davenport, Iowa, Collins received his formal training as an artist at the Cincinnati Art Academy and the Cleveland Art School. He worked for many years as a magazine illustrator before signing on with the NEA syndicate to produce his first newspaper comic strip, Mitzi McCoy. In late 1950, this Sunday-page contemporary melodrama about a wealthy heiress made an abrupt transformation into a late-Medieval adventure strip. Kevin the Bold first appeared October 1, 1950. This beautifully drawn Sunday strip, focused on one of Mitzi McCoy's 15th Century Irish ancestors, ran in syndication for nearly twenty years.

Oh, she's bold, alright.  Saucy, even.

This doesn't look like a jigsaw puzzle....  But seriously, great to see a CAF update from you Lars.  This is a very pretty strip.

Quite stylish. I didn't know that about the relationship to "Mitzi McCoy", that's a fascinating turn!

Curious thing about this comic -- dated June 17, 1965 -- that date is not a Sunday! I'll have to check the archive of my grandfather's comics to see what's up with this one.

Thank you,

Thanks for your comment, Brian, and the link to your fantastic blog.

Recommended reading for all lovers of classic strip art. Sadly, living in Scandinavia I was completely unaware of this fine strip until I saw this example for sale on Heritage.
