Description

Sheldon Mayer's Sugar and Spike by Skottie Young.

Skottie appeared at Comicpalooza 2018 with Felix Comic Art. His line wasn't long on Friday morning so I joined it to get his autograph and say hi. My turn comes up and I'm welcome to roll for the right to buy a sketch for $200. I decide to give it a try and I won (3s)!

Now what, I like Skottie's work, but I've never read I Hate Fairyland and only a little of the OZ books. However, I've often thought that he would be really good at Sugar and Spike and would love to commission an S&S 100 cover from him.

So, I asked for S&S. He said, "Who?" The youth of today no nothing!

It's okay though, I'd called up S&S reference material on my phone and he gave it a shot. I think that they are a little older than the toddlers that Mayer drew and seemingly less innocent, but I like it anyway. One day, I'll get him to do a real commission with the right age and attitude. In the meantime, this is fine.

These kids today, they need a comics education! But hey, this is great! Skottie would draw th heck out of some Sugar & Spike covers!

I really agree, Travis. I think he'd be perfect with a little more knowledge of the characters. I scoured the con for a S&S Archive or Showcase Presents to give to him because I think he'd love it. No success. :(

Update: I thought there was a Showcase Presents, but DC in their infinite wisdom didn't create one per the Wikipedia. That's dumb.
