DescriptionProud to share this Frank Brunner Dr. Strange cover with Dr. Strange battling his arch-enemy Baron Mordo and, in his first appearance, Sise-neg (Genesis spelled backwards) a time-traveling sorcerer from the 31st century. A superb example of Brunner's incredibly detailed line work, intricate feathering and cross-hatch shading.Scarce too-- there’s only one other pre-1975 Brunner Dr. Strange cover currently on CAF…plus the Dr. Strange #1 (June 1974) cover that just sold for over $400k (gulp!). Perhaps an ancient spell may help reveal others…By the Eye of Agamotto! Social/Sharing |

I think that Brunner sometimes gets overlooked in the pantheon of Marvel greats. While it's more common to ooh and aah over Kirby, Ditko, Everett, Wood, Kane, Romita, Buscema, Colan, etc., Brunner (more often than not) is left off the list. Hard to imagine that in looking at this absolutely spectacular cover. Not just a gem of a Dr. Strange cover, but as fine a Bronze Age example as one could hope for. Huge congrats Dino!

You raise a very good point. Brunner's name never appears on the 'Lists of the Greats.' At least not any lists that I've seen. Perhaps it's because Brunner was actually, artistically, so far above it all. When I was a kid, I really remember, when I saw a Brunner piece like this, I thought, "Wow! That's fine art." Fine art, not fine comic book art. I also loved Kirby, Ditko, Everett, Wood, etc., as the comic book greats, but I didn't think of Brunner in the same way as them. He was different. As I said, to me, his work was fine art.

GREAT cover! Super memorable to me who bought the book off the stands as a 14 year old. 1974 Brunner, as well as 1974 Starlin, was the best of the best of that era, and this is one of Brunner's best.

An absolutely stunning example, even contains one of his rogue's gallery foes, and all for far far less than the #1 cover will cost someone very soon! Well done, man, and GO BLUE!

Conjured to thrill and excite, Brunner's artwork incantation done in line art charms and summons our collective awe! The foes with their mystical energies are more than the Sorceror Supreme can handle in this exciting cover where the odds really put in him jeopardy, but By the Claimy rounds of 15, he shall prevail!

Classic Strange cover, Dino! Love the distressed expression on the Doc (how will he get out of this?!) and the inks really are sublime. Big congrats!
