Description
Man, this one was a fun story. I told my grandfather to wait on the INCREDIBLY long line for Ordway, embarked on my Kevin Nowlan adventure, and returned in the nick of time to meet Jerry.
I asked for Robin, and he said "you know it's going to be the OLD Robin, right?" I assured him I wasn't a big fan of the current Robin, anyhow (at that point it would have been the New 52 version). I was SHOCKED how little he charged for this sketch, though he reassured "I've got two kids in college, I'm gonna have to start charging more!"
I recall him musing on the brightness of Robin's costume in contrast to Batman's dark garb, and how it HAD to be a distraction. He proposed an idea for a one-page gag where Batman and Robin charge in from a rooftop, Robin is instantly spotted, and Batman ducks away to refuel the Batmobile and grab a cup of Bat-Joe. I'll have to draw that sometime.
Suffice it to say, I was incredibly pleased with this sketch, very reminiscent of his run on Squadron Supreme, which was a great Golden Age Robin.
