Description

�� My love for the Phantom started when I read the Lee Falk novel The Story of the Phantom as a teenager. The first Phantom was the sole survivor of a pirate attack on an English ship. The son of the ship's captain dedicated his life to the fight against piracy and criminals. Each son followed in his father's footsteps. The Twentieth marries an American woman and raises his son Kit Walker in the jungle, but sends the boy to his aunt and uncle to attend an American school. He becomes a scholar, sports star and local hero until his Bandar friend Guran arrives to bring him home. Kit arrives to see his dying father and takes the Oath of the Skull. He emerges from the Skull Cave as The Phantom, aka The Ghost Who Walks and The Man Who Cannot Die.

�� Mike Manley offered a number of strips on ebay and I went after this one for the Phantom, Diana Palmer, and Guran in the first panel, the look of resolve in the second panel, and the dramatic exit through the Skull Cave in the third panel.

�� I first met Mike over 20 years ago when he was doing some Batman Adventures comic books. I have a couple pieces from those days and one Samurai Jack page. I heard he had taken over drawing duties on the Phantom and am happy to buy these from him.
