Jacques Sandron was employed by the printer's office of the publishing house Dupuis, and worked as a comic artist on the side. Born in the French town Le Lude in 1942, Sandron attended the Falisolle miner's school in the Belgian Namur area. The Bois du Cazier miner's disaster in Marcinelle in 1956 forced him to choose another profession, and by 1957 he was hired as an apprentice with the printer of the publishing house Dupuis. He stayed with the company until his retirement in 1994.
He presented his first story to the editors of the Dupuis magazine Spirou in 1975. It was refused - but at least the experience got him in touch with Raoul Cauvin. Together, they created 'Godaille et Godasse', a humorous series about a French soldier and his horse in the days of Napoleon. After some initial short stories, Sandron and Cauvin started making longer stories from 1978 to 1984. In 1985 and 1986 they returned to shorter stories under the title 'Les mémoires d’un hussard'.
'Godaille et Godasse' was terminated after four albums when the publishing house was sold to Albert Frère and Hachette. Mourad Boudjellal's publishing firm MC Productions published another book in 1988. Between 1986 and 1994 Sandron and Cauvin were making 'Raphaël et les timbrés', a series of gags about a postman, for Bayard's educational monthly Je Bouquine. Two book collections were published by Soleil in 1989 and 1990, and the series additionally ran in Bayard's English-language magazine I Love English.
After his retirement, Sandron made illustrations for the British publisher of school material Nelson Thornes. Sandron and Cauvin cooperated once again in 2006 for the short story 'S.P.A.' in Spirou. In 2010 Sandron participated in the collective book 'Folklore Wallon en bulles' by Editions Dricot on the occasion of the Seraing comics festival.
