Gus Mager - Sherlocko the Monk - 1911

This is a first year panel cartoon of Gus Mager's Sherlocko the Monk, dated November 26, 1911. Mager's feature, a spoof of A. Conan Doyle's famous detective character, proved to be quite popular with the public, with the exception of Mr. Doyle himself. Mager was forced to change the title of the strip, so as not to infringe upon the Sherlock Holmes empire. Typically wonderful bigfoot drawing by an oft-forgotten cartoonist. This piece is subtitled, "The Adventures in the Chinese Laundry".
