2008, the Watcher shows up to observe the epic final battle between the Marvel heroes and the Skrulls who have infiltrated their ranks for years

Leinil Yu drew this character-packed full page splash as part of the epic final battle between the Marvel heroes and the Skrulls in the final issue of the huge crossover, Secret Invasion, #7. It features a huge image of the Watcher in the center, who has shown up to observe in person this major event in the universe. Typically Uatu watches Earth from the blue area of the moon, but when things get serious, he wants a better seat! We see several Marvel heroes and villains surrounding the Watcher battling with Skrulls who have been disguising themselves as other Marvel characters, in some cases for many years. We see Stature (Ant-Man's daughter Cassie Lang) using her growth power to fight a Skrull Galactus. We also see Thor, Phoenix and Bullseye getting in some punches against the shape-changing aliens.

Secret Invasion was Marvel's major event series of 2008. It ran through a self-titled 8-issue limited series and several tie-in books. The series focused on the shape-shifting Skrulls, who have been causing trouble since 1962's Fantastic Four #2 as they are revealed to have been posing as certain members of the Marvel Universe for quite some time. The Skrulls are going to be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in March's big Captain Marvel movie so perhaps we'll see Secret Invasion adapted for the big screen one of these years.

About the Artist
For the past two decades, Leinil Yu has been one of the most popular artists at Marvel. His first assignment was Wolverine and, as is evident by this early work that he did, he had a great feel for how to capture the character. After his run on Wolverine, Yu moved on to work on Marvel's core X-Men title and also has worked on Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk, New Avengers and Secret Invasion.
