Plate 1: Zxererelis, Piper & The Disciple Arrive by Sail Barge.

Unfortunately, Marshall Rogers didn�t name any of the characters in the Strange Portfolio, or even give a breakdown of the events or storyline. So, I've been left to fend for myself!

I've had to come by some names from alternate sources. Or in the case of Piper, I�m just calling him that literally because he smokes a pipe, and I can't really see his face. Zxererelis was named in the 8 pager from Imagine #1 (Star*Reach Productions, 1978), and The Disciple is a name in the copyrights on the F.O.O.G. Portfolio plate by Rogers. No idea if The Disciple is the girl here, but she is now (well, at least to me!). She seems to have a familiar, the black cat I've named Midnight after a buddy's childhood kitty. Piper's two hellhounds shall remain nameless beasts!

For the story: Zxererelis, Piper & The Disciple arrive by sail barge to a conclave at what I�m calling the Manse. Ahead at the docks, the nightwatchman lights their way amongst the crashing waves. High above, Princess Albana's starship rental brings more major players to the secret meeting.

Published by Schanes & Schanes as the 1st of 6 plates in a S/N edition of 1200.

Wow. Remarkable piece of work.

My take. The band gathers together looking for the elusive but effective tool, the ladder.

In which they hope to reach the ultimate prize. The grapefruit. Not just any grapefruit but one so bitter and sharp that it will make everything from now sweet.
