DescriptionStill stunned to have the great good fortune of being able to display this glorious piece. At a convention, when I asked the lovely and talented Brian Michael Bendis to sign this, he told me that Ultimate Marvel Team-Up was the first time Marvel had given him a creative "blank check" to do whatever he wanted... and the first thing he did was he went out and got Matt Wagner. "This is still the only book he's ever drawn at Marvel," I told him. "Yeah," he said, "it's a very special book." On top of the crazy awesome fact that it’s a Matt Wagner Spider-Man piece, there are some really great artistic touches on display. I love the depth of panel 2, thanks to the streetlight lighting source, and how you can fall back into three layers here; the immediate level of the pawn shop storefront, the shaded “corner of the block” rooftop of the building in the top third of the panel, and the silhouette outline of some of the New York skyline at the very top. In panel 6, we get Matt’s take on the always fun “Spidey-in-motion” trope, with the movement of Spider-Man down into the panel and the streetlight from above spotlighting (and drawing your eye to) the action below (leaving the top of the panel in some interesting shadow; I love the white paint used to “round the edge” of the light cast on the store’s awning from above). Again, sincere and from-the-bottom-of-my-heart thanks to the mighty Jim Warden (I learned an important lesson that day, sir: if there's a page you're interested in... ASK. :) ) Social/Sharing |

Congratulations on a wonderful 2-page spread from a terriific issue! Very cool that you got Matt to add in the "spider-signature"! It's a shame that the stars have not aligned for Matt to do more work at Marvel; hopefully he will grace their pages again at some point! I am very glad this piece found its best possible home in your collection!

The upward angle on the shot of Spidey in the middle of the spread is amazing. Marvel should do whatever it takes to get Wagner to do more Spider-Man work.

That is another big time winner for your Bendis theme!
